Revopush vs Cresc for React Native OTA updates

Revopush and Cresc are both hosted services that teams move to after App Center CodePush was retired. The main difference is the starting point: Revopush keeps the CodePush API by shipping a fork of react-native-code-push, while Cresc has its own SDK built for Hermes diffs, HarmonyOS and release monitoring, with a direct API mapping from CodePush.

Facts about Revopush are taken from its official pricing page and documentation as of October 2026. Tell us at [email protected] if anything here is out of date.

Short answer

  • Choose Revopush if keeping codePush.sync() and your existing CodePush code unchanged matters most, and you are on React Native 0.76 or later.
  • Choose Cresc if you want flat pricing without MAU or bandwidth overage, smaller Hermes patches, HarmonyOS support, or you are on a React Native version older than 0.76.

Pricing at the same scale

The two services bill different things, so compare against your own numbers:

  • Revopush counts monthly active users who receive an update and the bytes they download. Frequent releases to a large audience raise both meters.
  • Cresc counts how many times apps check for an update per day, across all your apps. Downloads are not metered, and Hermes-aware diffs keep them small anyway.

As a rough guide: an app with 300,000 monthly active users that each open the app about three times a day makes around 900,000 checks a day. That fits Cresc Pro at $99 a month. On Revopush the same audience is the $100 Growing tier, as long as egress stays under 1 TB. Your ratio of opens to users is the number to check. Checking only on cold start (checkStrategy: 'onAppStart') instead of also on resume keeps the count down if you want to stay on a smaller tier.

When Revopush is the better fit

  • You want the smallest possible code change from CodePush: same JS API, same CLI concepts.
  • You are already on React Native 0.76 or later and do not need HarmonyOS.
  • You need CI integrations for Bitrise or CircleCI out of the box.

When Cresc is the better fit

  • You want a predictable bill that does not grow with bandwidth or active users.
  • You ship Hermes builds and want the smallest patches for them.
  • You ship to HarmonyOS NEXT or Apple TV as well as iOS and Android.
  • You are on React Native older than 0.76 and can't upgrade yet.

FAQ

Is Revopush compatible with CodePush?

Yes. Revopush ships a fork of react-native-code-push that keeps the CodePush JavaScript API and workflow, and provides an App Center migration guide.

Do I have to rewrite my CodePush code to use Cresc?

You replace the SDK and change a few calls. codePush.sync() becomes the useUpdate hook or an update strategy, and appcenter codepush release-react becomes cresc bundle. The API migration guide maps every CodePush API, option and CLI command to its Cresc equivalent.

Which is cheaper, Revopush or Cresc?

It depends on how often users open your app compared with how many users you have, and how much you release. Revopush bills monthly active users and egress with overage; Cresc bills daily update checks with CDN delivery included and no overage. Estimate your daily checks as monthly active users multiplied by daily opens.

Does Revopush support HarmonyOS?

Its documentation covers iOS and Android only. Cresc supports iOS, Android and HarmonyOS NEXT through RNOH.
